Funny story: God kept their sandals

Last month around Thanksgiving I had made a promise to get back to a story later which relates to the story in scripture where God did not allow the Israelites sandals to wear out during their wanderings in the desert. He kept them in useable condition for his children.

In a similar manner, I have been using the same pair of purple new balance shoes (my favorite brand, in my experience the most comfortable on my feet) for probably close to six years. I had them well before I went to Kenya and took them along with me.

I use these purple sports shoes whenever I need a shoe of that type and they just keep going and going, God was keeping them for me as I had no way to replace them for a very long time.

The day after I visited my sister in the USA, these shoes gave me serious surprise. I went on a walk in my sister’s neighborhood and as we were walking, my shoes began to shed. The soles themselves were layered with different colors of gripping rubber pieces. The black around the toe came flying off first, and then a few more steps down the road, the green mid sole peeled back and fell. The side pieces of lavender for gripping the road decided to give out. Finally, the shoes themselves looked as if they chose to open their mouths and speak. As I made my way back from the halfway point of the neighborhood the soles flopped open and flopped back closed causing me to sound like a lame waterfowl all the way back towards the house.

Thankfully, God had kept my shoes from falling apart prior to this, and by the time they were allowed to fall asunder, I already had many people asking me what items they could help bless me with. A dear friend who had shoes barely worn (she didn’t care for the style but I find them quite desirable) and wears the same size as me gave me a couple of pairs that she rarely, if ever, used.

This is along with the clothes my sister has given me that her kids have grown out of, which fit my kids. The school books that have been purchased through donations made, face care products that I had only told the Lord that I wished I had access to have been donated to me by a friend who is an aesthetician, clothes for Albert and I donated from a couple friends who wear the same size as the two of us. In fact, all of the list of needs that I had before I left Kenya have been donated to us as far as what to bring back home for the kids, my parents, and my family.

Because of God’s never ending faithfulness, I am confident that He will continue to provide for every other need we have on the other side of the ocean while I am here and after I return.
